With our modern fast-paced lifestyles, it’s easy to get caught up in routines that don’t necessarily serve us. For many of us, we can continue this way for months or even years, before we realise it’s time to make a change. Becoming more mindful of your habits and the things you do on autopilot is a great way to start to form new habits, many of which will take no more time or effort.

Small acts of kindness to yourself can make a world of difference. With that in mind, here are five simple mindful changes to make at home…

1. Make home fragrance part of your daily routine

Aromatherapy has been used for thousands of years to alter our state of mind. There’s nothing more simple yet effective than lighting a candle or diffusing oil in your home, at the end of a long day. Ideal for helping you wind down and relax, try a lavender oil or chamomile. We love using oil burners and electric diffusers, as they are super simple to use and you can invest in several oils to use depending on your needs or mood.

2. Take 5 minutes to get some fresh air first thing

While many of us rush out of the house in the morning, finding five extra minutes to start your day on a positive note will make a big difference. Studies show that exposure to daylight as early as possible can help support your circadian rhythm, helping you to sleep better at night, plus five minutes of quiet in the fresh air will help you focus and provide benefits that will last all day. Set your alarm for five minutes earlier, and take your morning coffee or cup of tea outside, instead of drinking it on the go.

3. Pop on a pair of super cosy slippers

Nothing feels more comforting than coming home and popping on your favourite pair of slippers. It’s almost like a signal to relax and enjoy your evening at home, or your weekend. Selfcare doesn’t have to mean a spa day or weekend away. Of course it can be these things, but it can also be just five minutes and simple acts of kindness towards yourself. Commit to five minutes each evening to apply a nourishing night cream and massage your skin with a jade roller. Your skin will thank you for it, plus this is a great way to prepare yourself for a good night’s rest and finish the day on a positive note.

Just a few small changes to the way you live at home can make a huge difference. Mindful living doesn’t have to cost a lot, or take up a lot of time, but it can be hugely impactful on both your mental and physical wellbeing.
